MECHANICAL & FABRICATION SCOPE OF WORK
UMEC installed complete mechanical, high- and low-pressure steam, and hydronic piping systems. The company also satisfied comprehensive start up and commissioning criteria. The effort included fabrication and delivery of 150,000 pounds of sheet metal ductwork – some of it as large as 108 by 74 inches, as well as rooftop installation. This task was completed in six weeks, prior to tower crane removal.
EDUCATIONAL FACILITY BACKGROUND
Founded in 1897, San Diego State University is the oldest and largest higher education institution in the San Diego region and is in the top seven percent of higher education research institutions in the U.S.
To complete a 5-story, 100,000-square-foot facility, containing 58 laboratories with nearly 200 fume hoods and 86 fume extractors.
MECHANICAL CONSTRUCTION SOLUTIONS
This was a UMEC rescue job. The company was contracted after 12 months of construction. During that time, only 20 percent of the mechanical construction work had been completed, and the project was significantly behind schedule. Within three months, UMEC had the project back on schedule and moving toward on-time completion.
