Lean pull planning and aggressive project management was a key element in developing and maintaining the schedule on this project. The new facility earned a LEED Silver Certification.
The University of California San Diego Facilities Design and Construction needed design-assist, mechanical, and plumbing services for a large, 200+ bed expansion to Thornton Hospital. Twelve operating rooms, an MRI operating room, and a bone marrow transplant floor will be part of the new hospital.
UMEC provided design-assist, mechanical, and plumbing services for the comprehensive upgrades and expansion of the facility. The renovation component included roughly 70,000 square feet of renovations to the existing Thornton Hospital and consisted primarily of renovations to imaging, surgery, and support spaces located on the existing lower level.
