Design/Build Cogeneration & Mechanical Construction
VALUE DELIVERED
Reduced energy costs, improved educational environment
COGENERATION DESIGN/BUILD SCOPE OF WORK
This project is a primary example of EMCOR's bundled services concept. UMEC, one of its subsidiaries, two EMCOR Group sister companies, and EMCOR Facilities Services worked as an integrated team to design, build, and supervise operation of the school's new cogeneration facility.
EDUCATIONAL FACILITY BACKGROUND
Since its founding four decades ago, UCSD—one of the ten campuses in the world renowned University of California system—has rapidly become one of the top institutions in the nation for higher education and research. UCSD's interdisciplinary ethos and tradition of innovation and risk-taking underlie its research strength and ability to recruit top scholars and students.
DESIGN/BUILD OBJECTIVES
To provide an affordable source of power for the schoo's on- and off-campus facilities. This was the single largest design/build mechanical construction project for the cogeneration facility in the school's history.
FACILITIES SOLUTIONS
In addition to performing complete design/build services, UMEC supervised the facility's operation for one year after completion, with EMCOR Facilities Services providing selection and training assistance.
