CUSTOM FABRICATION & ENERGY SOLUTIONS
Seeking a mechanical contractor with extensive expertise in the custom fabrication and installation of stainless steel piping for wastewater treatment and other critical processes, this client chose UMEC to help with a pioneering energy services project aimed at generating electricity and organic fertilizer with methane produced from cattle manure and other biowaste.
UMEC fabricated and installed the piping running from the plant's settling ponds to the flare stack by way of anaerobic digesters similar to those used in municipal wastewater treatment facilities. The company also installed the plant's mechanical equipment as well as all interior and exterior pipe supports.
Additional information: To further improve energy efficiency, some of the heat generated by the digesters produces steam used by the plant's rendering operation. The plant also saves cattle ranchers four dollars per ton in manure handling fees.
The Brawley Beef plant processes between 1,200 and 1,800 head of cattle a day. Two thirds of the plant revenue comes from power sales, with organic fertilizer sales providing the balance.
